    *desire可以用作名词和动词。名词主要有三个义项c渴望；欲望；渴望得到的人或物。

    *desire作动词意思为：希望得到，想要。固定搭配形式：+名词；+不定式；+复合宾语；+that从句 (虚拟语气)。

2. satisfaction

satisfaction是名词，有两个义项，满意，满足;令人满意的人或物。

satisfy作动词，意为“使满意，使满足”。固定搭配形式有：be satisfied with

satisfied作为形容词，意思是“满意的，感到满意的”

satisfactory／satisfying均为形容词，“令人满意的，让人满意的”

3．smooth

观察示例

His hair was smooth and his voice was deep．

smooth可用作形容词和动词。作形容词主要有三个义项；光滑的；平坦的；平稳的。

smooth用作动词时既可以及物又可以不及物，意思是“使平静；使光滑；消除；克服”。

    4．embarrass

    观察示例

    She felt embarrassed and quickly told him to go．

    她感到很尴尬，叫他赶快走开。

    Are you trying to embarrass me?

    你是不是想让我难堪?

    I felt embarrassed at／by his comments about my clothes．

    他对我的衣服说长道短让我很难堪。

    She felt embarrassed at／by her being late．

    她因迟到而焦虑不安。

    embarrassment是其名词形式。有两个义项：困窘，难堪；让人难堪的人或事。

    5．accompany

    As he was not allowed to accompany her to shops，he wrote out a list of items for her．

    The singer was accompanied by／on the piano．

    6．paint

    7.firm／firmly

    I am a firm believer in always telling the truth．

    We must take firm measures to prevent our environment from being polluted．

    我们必须采取坚定的措施来防止环境污染。

    He held her firmly in his arms and she felt the warmth of his body．

    他稳稳地用胳膊接住了她，因而她感觉到了他身体的温暖。

    I firmly believe that we should not tell lies．

    我坚信我们不该撒慌。

    She held her lips firmly sitting there．

    8．declare

    观察示例

    She cried out“Tony” and then heard him declare that he didn't want to leave her the next day and that he felt more then just the desire to please her．

    她哭喊了声“Tony”，接着听见他声明：他不想离开她，而且他感到自己不仅仅是想取悦她。

    I declared the meeting closed．我宣布会议结束。

    Jones was declared the winner of the fight．

    Jones被宣布为拳击赛的胜者。

    She declared that she knew nothing about the robbery．

    她声称自己对这一次抢劫一无所知。

    注意declare与announce的区别：declare多指正式地当众发布，常用于宣战、议和与宜判；announce则指公开地发布人们所关心的或感兴趣的事情，尤指新闻之类的消息。

    9.envy

    观察示例

    What a sweet victory to be envied by those woman．

    一场多令那些妇女嫉妒的甜蜜胜利啊!

    I envy your success．=I envy you your success．

    His new car excited their envy．

    他的新车激起了他们的嫉妒。

   She is the envy of the whole street.

    她是整条街上人们羡慕的偶像。

    envy作名词主要有两个义项：羡慕，嫉妒；令人羡慕的对象。   

    envious是其形容词，固定搭配形式：be envious of。

    10．marry／marriage

    观察示例

    Asimov was married twice．

    Asimov结了两次婚。

    Alice married a Frenchman．

    艾丽丝嫁了个法国人。

    He married his daughter to a rich man.

    他把女儿嫁给了一个有钱人。

    They are going to marry next week．

    他们下周要结婚。

    Their teacher married them．

    他们的老师为他们主持了婚礼。

    She got married to a writer．

    她同一个作家结婚了。

    marry既可作及物动词又可作不及物动词。主要义项；结婚；嫁；娶；为……证婚。常见短语：marry... to．．．；get married to。    ”

    marriage 是它的名词形式，指“婚姻”。

    特别提示：get married不能与时间段连用，“与……结婚”用介词to而不用with。

    11. divorce

    观察示例

    Soon after his divorce in 1873，Asimov married again．

    在他1973年离婚后不久，Asimov再婚了。

    Divorce is on the increase．

    离婚在不断增加。

    His wife asked for a divorce．
